Gilberto Aceves-Navarro
Gilberto Aceves Navarro (b. 1931) deserves the title of Maestro for two reasons: because he is a creative artist in his own right and because for twenty nine years he has been the teacher of many contemporary artists. He teaches at the Academia de San Carlos -the National School of Plastic Arts - Mexico City, and in his ever active studio "Taller de Dibujo Gilberto Aceves Navarro". Aceves Navarro with Cuevas and Toledo among others, were members of the "Generacion de Ruptura" a group of artist that looked to dissociate from The Mexican Mural Painting School in search for their original artistic contributions. He has had over 30 individual shows (in México as well as in Europe and the United States) and is the author of 10 murals. The works of Aceves Navarro are part of the collections of the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes, México City; Museo de Arte Moderno, Brazil; Museo Rufino Tamayo, México City; Museo Rayo, Roldanillo, Colombia; Museo de Arte Contemporaneo, Monterrey, México; among others. His work was selected to represent México in Expo-67 in Montreal, Canada; in Hemisfair-68 in San Antonio, Texas; and in Expo-70, Osaka, Japan. Recently Aceves Navarro was discovered in Germany: he had exhibitions in Hamburg and Hanover. He also had a recent show in Panama. Today the works of Maestro Aceves Navarro continue to be immensely creative and fresh.      View Images
